How to Be More Visible as a Principal

As a principal, it’s important to be visible throughout the day in order to build relationships with students and staff. But sometimes it can be difficult to accomplish this, especially if you’re the only administrator in the building. Here are a few ideas for how you can be more visible and present in your school community.

  1. Make a point to greet everyone in the morning. This is a great way to start the day positively and let everyone know you’re there and available.
  2. Take time to visit classrooms throughout the day. Pop in for a few minutes here and there to talk with students and teachers. Not only will this help you stay up-to-date on what’s going on in the classroom, but it will also show that you care about the work that’s being done.
  3. Get involved in extracurricular activities. Whether it’s attending a sporting event or chaperoning a field trip, taking an active role in extracurricular activities is a great way to show your support for students and staff alike.
  4. Hold regular office hours. Let people know that they can come to you with questions or concerns at specific times during the week. This will give you dedicated time to address any issues that might come up.
