For Florida principals and assistant principals
Walkthroughs in the new 2026 FEAP language
The FEAPs changed in August. Your walkthrough form probably didn't. Walk from your phone, note what you see for Standards 4 and 5, and send the feedback the same day.

The six 2026 FEAPs, and the two you can see on a walk
Rule 6A-5.065 now has six Standards. Learning Environment and Instructional Delivery happen in front of you. The rest live in planning, data, and professional practice.
4 Learning Environment
High expectations for all students, clear rules and routines, and well-managed students, resources, time, and space.
5 Instructional Delivery
Pace that protects learning time, high-impact practices, checks for understanding, and timely, specific, actionable feedback.
1 Professional Responsibilities and Ethics
Student welfare, student and parent rights, and professional conduct. Outside the walk.
2 Professional Learning, Content Knowledge, and Pedagogy
Professional learning and reflection. You may spot grade-level benchmarks in the task.
3 Preparation and Planning
Happens before the lesson. Leave it for planning conversations.
6 Data and Assessment
Mostly data work outside the room. You may see in-the-moment monitoring.
From PM1 to PM2, walk the weeks in between
The weeks between FAST progress monitoring windows are when a principal can still see whether the changes from data meetings are happening in classrooms.
1
Start with PM1
PM1 closed September 25. You know which students are behind.
2
Walk the reading blocks
Short visits on pace, checks for understanding, and feedback, while there is still time to change things.
3
See it before PM2
PM2 opens November 30. Your walkthrough trend sits next to the result.
How Florida schools are organized
In Florida, each county is its own school district, so the state has 67 county school districts, each with its own elected school board. Districts with 20,000 or fewer students can also join a regional consortium for shared services. As of 2025, three consortia served 36 member districts, each governed by a board of its member superintendents.

Built for every grade level
In Florida, K-2 students take the Star tests in every FAST window, so the early literacy block is where many principals look first. The same look-fors work in any classroom.
Look-fors for your next literacy block
- Routines get the lesson started and keep it moving (4.2)
- The pace keeps students working the whole block (5.1)
- Turn and talk, cold call, or everybody writes (5.2)
- The teacher checks for understanding and adjusts (5.3)
- Students get specific feedback in the moment (5.4)
